It’s safe to say that many of us aren’t as active as we usually are, and that’s probably because many of us are staying home (as you should!) and not moving around much. We know we’re supposed to wash our hands, maintain social distance, and avoid the spread of coronavirus, so it’s now more important than ever that we keep our bodies healthy. Staying active is an important aspect of health, so here are a few ideas to get a little more pep in your step at home!
1. Internet Sweat
There are so many fantastic workout videos out there online that you can follow along with from home with little to no equipment, and it can give you the feeling of being in a class with an instructor, so just pull one up on your phone, laptop, or TV, and get that heart pumping!
2. Bust a Move
If you’re not the type to follow along to workout instructions, workout to the beat of your own drum (or your favorite playlist) by just putting on some of your favorite tunes and dancing around your house. You know what they say: dance like no one’s watching!
3. Walk and Talk
When we’re home and away from family and friends, it’s important to stay connected, so be sure to set up times to call loved ones and catch up. This is also a great opportunity to stretch your legs and walk around while talking instead of just sitting in one place. In a time when we don’t really have many opportunities to get up and about, every bit helps!
4. Take A Stand
If you are someone who is working from home, invest in a standing desk (or just stack up a bunch of books) to rest your laptop or papers on, so you can keep your blood circulating and won’t have to deal with a stiff neck and sore back after hours of sitting in a chair or on your bed.
5. Weight a Minute
You might not have access to a gym right now, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop strength training. Switch up your workout routine with some bodyweight exercises (calisthenics) such as push-ups, mountain climbers, or wall sits. You could get creative with weights by raiding your garage for some paint cans or your refrigerator for gallons of milk!
6. Walking on Sunshine
Your balcony, porch, or yard can be a great place to enjoy the outdoors while getting your move on at home. It is important that we all practice safe distancing practices, but staying home doesn’t mean we can’t take the opportunity to feel the wind in our hair and sunshine on our faces!
Staying active can be a lot of fun, so I hope you take away some tips that you can use to keep both your body and mind healthy while at home. You can even get your roommates, spouse, or kids to join in on the fun so you can feel the burn together!
